Commission and test ship systems to ensure they are working to the required specification and are not at risk of failure, causing harm to individuals and are portioning correctly. This involves carrying out different forms of testing (like dynamics and load tests) and also completing test sheets and reports.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy the programme I am on as i am able to work in placements all over the yard which gives me a large variety of areas to gain new experiences, develop and learn new skills and further my knowledge and understanding within the field of mechanical engineering. The college that work along side the company also provide a good opportunity to further my knowledge and skills.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have developed new skills through the use of new tooling, as well as working in a variety of different areas and environments. In addition, I have developed my hand skills techniques (this includes the use of files, manual saw, etc...) and also machinery like column drills and milling machines

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is structured well and the company is well organised with our placements, training and providing all information and equipment we require throughout our apprenticeship. However, a couple of the college teachers could do with being more organised and structured to make it easier, less stressful and clearer for us to complete the word to the highest standards. The company and also teachers within college are helping sort this and have been very proactive in doing so.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
we receive a good amount of support form our employer, they are always their when we need support, they regularly check up on us to ensure we are happy and settling in and getting on well within our placement. They also ensure that we are figuring things out for ourselves and are being proactive and helping ourselves out as well.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
we receive an adequate amount of support from the majority of out teachers to help us clearly understand what they are asking us to do and what they are looking for in our exams, assignments and other work to achieve the highest possible grades we can. However, some teachers could provide a little more support when it comes to clarity and requirements for the work they set.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
they give us the knowledge, understanding and skills that we require to help perform the test we are carrying out, as well as allowing us to understand how we do the job, the safety requirements and standards we must follow and also the reasons we carry out the tests and work we do.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
we are kept updated on tasks and events that we can participate in within the company. These events can range from team task to individual tasks as well. These types of events allow us to learn new skills and develop exciting ones.
