Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role can variey day to day, sometimes I am working on hot works fabrication for example repairing an insert on a ships bulkhead or doing spanner work on the ships mess decks. My role as a fabricator is mostly assembling and dissembling components to be installed on the ship.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy my programme. The apprenticeship has taught me a lot since day one. From basic hand skills in my first year at city college Plymouth. To now working on war ships within the dockyard. I would recommend this apprenticeship to anyone who is looking to better them selfs.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt a lot of me skills which I do on a day to day basis. These being how to operate machinery, fabricate, assemble and dissemble components. Basic hand skills when it comes to working within the dockyard and new skills I have learnt since the start of my apprenticeship.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is very well structured. From the city and guilds perspective of each module being broken down into a year planner. To the physical side of the job. On each ship I am located a flm where they allocate me to work on and be trained on different equipment.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive constant support from
My employer. Weekly Phone calls and constant text messaging and meeting up within their offices to speak about my progress, how I’m getting on and how far I am on my onefile assessments. With also speaking to me about my future within the company.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive weekly help with my city and guilds tutors at the Plymouth city college. They are very helpful with all of my exam revision abs if I am needing extra revision work they will happily send me more so I am ready to take my exams when July comes around.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My qualification helps me tremendously to perform better in my job role. This happens on a day to day basis. The relevant information I have learnt and am still learning helps me a lot. For example being taught how to use a grinder for hot works working on large inserts on war ships.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes there any many to get involved in. Just to mention a couple of things are: football clubs, Social clubs, running and cycling clubs. Babcock really strive to push there work force to become one large family and attend different events together. Babcock fairs are also very common and extremely helpful.
