Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Apprentice Electrical Fitter. Traning to install electrical equipment on marine vessels (ideally) but also gaining experience working in factory and estates environments.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
First year at college was very good, building foundation skills. The 2nd year has at my place of work has so far been mixed. A couple of work placements have been very mundane and boring, but the current placement I am in is very interesting to me and somewhere I would like to end up once my apprenticeship is completed.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Lots on new skills gained in the electrical industry, as well as a better understanding of the Royal Navy and how warships work and operate.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
There is a clear roadmap of what you will be doing through out the 4 year apprenticeship scheme, on occasion annouments about events, placement changes etc. can be abit last minute.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
On the whole the majority or staff have been happy to help me with my learning, and gaining new skills, any problems I have had have been dealt with well. The organisation has many outreach groups for work and personal issues.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Support is good when you ask for it. Any questions, issues or anything I am stuck with I receive support for.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I feel that the role and the work I will be carrying out is a little bit below the level 3 qualification the apprenticeship is based around. But it does put you in a good position to further your career if you work for it.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Nothing apprentice specific I am aware of. But there are plenty of clubs/groups networks etc for various things.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Babcock International Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Interesting place to do an apprenticeship (if you end up in a good section). Good qualification at the end of the scheme and very likely to stay on and gain employment at the end.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Babcock International Group?
Have an interest in engineering, but you don't need to know the ins and outs of the Royal Navy and ships. Just show a keeness to learn and commitment to the company.
