Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role is very good and I really enjoy it. I am a fabricator at Babcock and I am also leaning how to weld and get my level 1 welding course. Most days I am working with hand tools and the machines but some other days I am working I. The welding bays.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I love my programme because I am more hands on and I am a lot better in the workplace then I am in the class room. So for me it’s better because we only do 1 day in the classroom then we do 4 In the workplace so I find the programme very enjoyable.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt so many new skills because I come out of school and didn’t know much about engineering or fabrication so and now I know how to use all the machines and how to weld. So this has helped a lot with me learning everything that is needed when working at Babcock.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
We have a few different courses to do while working in the workplace and the instructors are so good they help when they can and also they are always on top of what then employees are doing they never let anyone fall behind or they never get confused on the different courses so it’s very good and organised.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
When in the workplace we have loads of support as there are 2 instructors that walk around helping you whenever you need it. Also when we are in the classroom we have loads of help because if we are struggling then we can put are hand up and ask for help so we have a lot of support and help.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
We get loads of help with everything regarding are jobs. Also they help us a lot with knowing what needs to be done to be able to complete the task and get the correct qualification. So they employers are very good at helping the employees and explaining what needs to be done to complete the jobs and work.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My role within Babcock is a fabricator and we have to complete a few different tasks within the workplace like sheet metal, plate work , welding etc. So doing all these different things that help with being a fabricator and doing what has to be don’t is better for me so I know if I am falling behind or if I’m going a little to fast I know how to pace my self.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
I’ve only been with Babcock for about 10 months so I am not 100 percent sure is they have sports teams and stuff but i know when we are in the yard they do offer for us to go on holidays and enjoyable things with are workmates. So yes they do have activities in are work time.
