Our apprenticeship allows us the ability to rotate through the IT organisation. Currently I am working as a software engineer as part of an AI operations team, helping to build out AI Platforms
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy my program. As there is the ability to rotate, I am able to choose a path that interests me. I have made some really close friends with people on the program or just ordinary employees, and this makes working here all the more fun.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Initially when I had started, there was a lot less structure. The role to look after the IT program was vacant at the time and since we have had a person fill this role, more structure is being implemented. There is still more to be done though
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I have not yet been in a position where I haven't been able to get the support I need. I have a lot of people that I can go to for help with certain problems, and my employer, manager will always prioritise my studies over work delivery.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

For the most part, there also hasn't been a point where I have not been able to get the support I need. For most of my units, the lecturers are very approachable and able to answer my questions. I also meet up with my skills coach/tutor quarterly and this has been great to liaise between my employer and university
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Having a software focused course has given me the opportunity to learn important software techniques and principles, as well as the chance to practice more. Often I have benefited from the transferability of these skills, using what I have learnt at uni to help me with my job and vice versa
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I play football onsite and 7-a-side with friends form work.
I am also help to run an internal Code Club with a couple other graduates and Apprentices and this has involved a lot of people. There are also many apprentice type social activities that I get involved in.

Would you recommend AstraZeneca to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Initially I was weighing up between uni and an apprenticeship, this opportunity has allowed me to do both. I haven't once felt any regret making this decision and have already made some life long friends
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AstraZeneca?
Experience is good but attitude is the most important. To be willing to adapt your approach or learn new skills is the best way to keep relevant. If you feel you have a true passion that you want to pursue at AstraZeneca you shouldn't worry through the application process
