Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
College Work, Placement Engineering Work and learning on the job, attending training webinars or project/cascade meetings and volunteering in STEM and for the ED&I networks.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy finding out about all the different things there are to learn, and the work I do alongside my placement work gives enough variety so that I can move between different things if one particular area isn't quite as interesting for a time.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I am now a lot more confident in speaking up in meetings due to my work in the networks and the opportunities that have been provided by the Early Careers team. My knowledge is growing day by day due to the complexity of my placement and college learning.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Placement structure has recently been relaunched which means it's still finding it's feet so I've had to find my own placements recently. I'm hoping this improves but there is a worry that the variety of placements may diminish as a result of this restructure.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive a lot of support from the Early Careers team and my line manager, as well as guidance from other colleagues in the business. If I have an issue there is always someone I can talk to to help address this.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My college lecturers are very approachable and I feel confident in completing my qualifications to the best of my abilities with their support, especially as this support has stayed in place during a very challenging year.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My qualification has definitely been relevant to my work, although not always directly, but I think everything that I learn has a place where it will be reflected in t he workplace.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
I have been actively involved in the Women's Network who have 1-2 virtual events each month to meet other women in the company. Although social activities have taken a hit in 2020, these are likely to return when the offices reopen.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Cavendish Nuclear to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I feel like they care about you, and my work as a member of the Prospect Union Branch has shown the care they take. Safety is their number 1 priority and they reflect this in looking after employees mental health as well as physical.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cavendish Nuclear?
Be yourself, because Cavendish will allow you to bring your true self to work and will give you space to learn and develop (at least as an apprentice!)
