Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
During my regular day, i work on the live core network of the UK, helping fix faults and maintain the network. Providing communications for engineers in order to make sure that they're fixing the network correctly. As well as this, i remotely fix the network by logging onto certain equipment and running diganostics
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy this program a lot. There's always something for me to do, and i feel like im truly counted as a full team member even though im still learning and developing my skills throughout the days i spend doing other work. It's certainly one that I would reccomend to friends.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Within my 2.5 years, i have learnt how to successfully communicate with a wide variety of figures across the whole of the business. This includes senior members as well as regular team members. I have also learnt how to successfully diagnose faults on such an important UK wide network.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
There's, for the most part, a good amount of structure is prevelent and has been throughout my time at BT. Sometimes there can be a lack of true organisation with certain things, but due to unusual circumstances. This is rare, however, so I'd largely say it is very well structured
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
We have a lot of support from a wide variety of people within the company and from the university. Especially our apprentice assessor who will give regular check ups on us and make sure everything is going alright, and if we have any problems with actual work or university work.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The university of suffolk are usually really helpful with helping us pass our exams and succeed in our coursework. Recently, they booked us a whole weeks worth of lectures to do a deep dive for a qualification we need to do, and it truly stood out to be incredibly beneficial
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The UoS training that we have recieved over the past couple years has been very great to give us contextual knowledge on everything networks. Although it doesnt directly contribute to our work as such, the knowledge of basic networking is always extremely helpful in allowing us to succeed within our job role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
BT is great with providing us opportunities to branch out and network ourselves to people from around the company. As well as this, we have the ability to go on volunteering events that help us give back to the community as well. Although COVID has prevented this from occuring as much as we'd like it to.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BT Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
BT is a great place to boost your career, whether it be in software, networking or any other IT speciality. This is because theyre willing to help you gain qualifications along the way that help you further your career. There's always a care given to every single member of any team
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT Group?
Just making sure that it is the place for you, and that you're willing to learn some real technical knowledge. The reason for this is because BT is the UKs largest broadband provider, so a lot of things will need to be learned in order for BT to provide the best service possible for our customers
