Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Internship was fully virtual due to COVID.
Assisted on a couple of live deals as well as engaging with internal projects and ad hoc work as requested by analysts/associates over the 10 week internship. Interacted daily with deal-team members.
Deal responsibilities were mainly process-type tasks (as opposed to technical) - reflecting the stage the deals were at.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes - felt like a valued member of the team. Produced materials that went to the client and assisted with internal projects where I worked with senior colleagues.

Key skills developed:
- Ability to work under time pressure and manage conflicting commitments
- Attention to detail - lots of time spent double-checking work
- Networking - lots of encouragement from Junior Talent Team (HR team running intern programme) to network; colleagues were very receptive to networking requests

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
Interns were assigned a Buddy (analyst/associate for day-to-day queries), Development Officer (akin to a line manager) and Mentor (senior colleague for general discussions). Mid- and End of Internship Reviews took place with Development Officer where feedback was provided and your progress was discussed.
Junior Talent Team also ran weekly drop-in sessions for any issues and were transparent about the resources available.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Positive, friendly atmosphere where questions were encouraged. Atmosphere within my team was also very good with people being willing to help and spare their time.
Junior Campus Team ran a number of initiatives throughout the internship such as sessions with senior speakers within the bank (CEO, division heads etc.), introductions to the various diversity networks across the bank, an education-related volunteering activity, and entertainment-type experiences e.g. art exhibition virtual tours.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Bank of America to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to Bank of America
Apply as early after applications open as possible, remain up to date with current events for the interview stage (recent deals, financial/economic news etc), attend pre-applications events ran by HR if possible (can be a good thing to mention in interviews/application questions). IB applications guides freely available online are also useful and relevant.
If you receive an offer, the training is comprehensive so little to prepare beyond checking your understanding of financial statements.
