Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

As a part of electrical design team my day-to-day tasks involved helping out on electrical / lighting design projects.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

As a vacation student, all of the tasks performed by me were checked by an experience colleague and so I wasn't responsible for much.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

For the short time working here I have learned many new skills and developed some of existing skills. I had a chance to learn how electrical design is performed using CAD software and how lighting in new build structures is designed.
I also had a chance to develop my research skills .

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

The support and guidance was excellent. There is a '' Buddy '' system operating in the company for the vacation students where each of us is assigned to a experience college. This person helped me with all the necessary guidance, training and support throw-out every single day. Also , I could ask any of the staff for extra support if needed.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I enjoyed the placement very much as I learned few new skills, got some insight into the design sector and had chance to work along some great people.
After spending 6 weeks in Arup I can definitely say that I will want to go back after my studies are finished.
