Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role included sampling, testing, documenting and assessing basic parts of financial statements. The activity is set up by a senior who gives specific part of the Financial statement to work on e.g. in income statement, prepaid expenses. They also give a breakdown of what to do, how and where to get necessary evidence
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

It's really nice, the teams are nice and always encourage to you to ask for help if you're not sure what to do. There are team building activities at the end of the week which are really fun. The company and team members are also quite understanding when you're not feeling to well or if you're going through anything.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

This helped me brush up on my excel skills and I also learnt new features on excel that make the work easier.
I also learnt how to send well structured and detailed emails most especially when requesting things from clients and how to give a detailed assessment of the work done.

During the placement the university did not give us any work to reduce stress and will give us revision sessions when we get back.
Since we had to work from home all materials we needed were sent to us like a week before our training started which was a month before the actual placement

How much support do you receive from your employer?

The month before the placement we had a week of training. We were shown around the system and give some details about the kind of work we will be doing. We are also assigned buddies who are students on the same couse from the same UNI as well as career coaches who are staff of the company to guide us through the entire placement. Also when you are put in a team you’ll be working continuously one person or two people and they can go through what you’ve done.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The lecturers are helpful and encourage you to ask questions even if it’s via email. They touch on all topics in class and can explain it if you still don’t understand. They have also made room for revision session in summer term when we return

You have the text book knowledge as you go for the placement and when you see how the things you’ve read are applied, you begin to connect the dots

Since everything was online because of the pandemic there wasn’t much to do but the team I was put on do have quizzes every Friday and they were fun

They are very supportive of new comers and they make sure that you always have someone who’s kind of coaching you
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
Don’t panic. It’s actually more straightforward than it seems. Try and learn how to communicate effectively with others
