Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I run chilled stock handling on a daily basis. My day starts by pulling back stock and then breaking down the delivery to be then worked upstairs on the shop floor. After the delivery is complete I then make sure all of the chilled section is fully stocked throughout the day. At the end of the day reductions and waste are complete as well.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I am looking forward to developing my skills and abilities further through this apprenticeship as I am eager to see the gain I will get from learning on the job and progressing through roles.
I enjoy the fact that I will be gaining insight into deeper aspects of Iceland, rather than just the shop floor which is what I’m used to.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Time management - making sure I complete all that is needed to do in my shift to ensure that the chilled section is fully stocked at all times and ensure that reductions and waste are done by the end of the day without me rushing.
Communication - communicating with peers about issues or giving direction has taught me to be confident and a leader

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
So far it is well organised as I have a great leader who communicates well with me and sees my enthusiasm for this programme. The structure of one topic/ chapter a week makes the learning side more doable and makes me feel more motivated to learn and spend time reading through the text.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My manger and senior supervisor have been extremely supportive, assisting me with technical training from the get go, providing me with practice tests and giving me the confidence I need to progress through this course and hopefully be on a similar level to them one day. They have been very helpful and encouraging.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
[This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] has been very helpful. I enjoyed talking to her on the phone and getting to know her more especially as I’ll be seeing her monthly over the course of the next year. She was encouraging and has been reachable every day via whatsapp, so communicating with her has been easy, many of my problems or questions have been answered quickly.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I am now viewing my role as not just a ‘job’ but as a ladder and a learning foundation. I’m taking a more analytic approach to my role, seeing things that I can improve on, things I would do differently, I’m starting to think more like a duty manager/ supervisor.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
Talking iceland meetings
