Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I supported my team with tasks that they had set me after giving me full coaching on how to do the task. Specifically, my work would involve inputting data into excel spreadsheets, joining in on calls with the client, and selecting samples from the data that we would later test.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I discovered whilst on placement that i do not enjoy work as an accountant and that it was not for me. so it did feel very long and uninteresting at some points, but this was nothing to do with the atmosphere, just the work as everyone around me was great to be with and really supportive so i did enjoy it to an extent because of this.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes, I definitely have. It has supported my work for my university module in auditing and assurance. It directly links to the work we do in the module and so it really reinforces the knowledge we built in the first semester, and will set me in good stead for my exams.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
It was indeed very well structured and organised i found. I was always made aware of who i could talk to for each of the areas i was working on through placement. we had different people who would help to coach us on each client, and our career coach and buddy for the entire placement.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
we received a lot of support. we had different people who would help to coach us on each client, and our career coach and buddy for the entire placement. I knew i could speak to them whenever i needed, and they would always give me the best guidance, or direct me to someone who could help.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
We have had lectures from ICAEW on multiple occasions whilst at university however i would not massively see it as the best form of support. i can't recall much from these sessions and more study materials or something like that would provide more support rather than people coming in to talk to us
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
because we do our qualification through university accreditation, i would not be able to give an accurate answer for this as it does not really feel like i am doing my qualification whilst in my role. this is because the exam work is separate to when we go on placement.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
In the leeds office at PwC, i have seen there are many extra - curricular activities. for example, there is a netball team however due to the pandemic and social distancing, we have not seen much of this over our placement although it would be something i definitely see as an option to me.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I think that, although i did not enjoy the actual work i did, it was the best environment i could have wished to do it in as it was so well structured and supportive. I found that my managers on teams would put a big emphasis on having a good work life balance which is very important in this line of work.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
I would say to make sure it is definitely what you want to do and you are not distracted by the brand name and reputation, or the good money! it is hard work but if you can apply yourself to it and enjoy it, you will definitely reap the benefits
