Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
On a day to day basis i perform audit work on different areas of accounting. I either correspond with the client via email or phone calls to ask them queries. I also review information provided by the client and document this within our files. I also speak to the rest of my team.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I do enjoy my programme a lot. It is a great experience in getting both experience in the industry and getting a university degree at the same time. I think it is a great experience for any one looking to go into accounting and is very enjoyable as you get to experience lots of things.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt many new skills over my placement. Especially developing my excel skills and learning new formulas and shortcuts throughout the placement. I have also learnt new skills of communication and improved my confidence when speaking to the client and asking them for information, which before I was more nervous about.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
It is well organised, however there are some aspects which need more organisation, such as what admin tasks we need to do. Apart from that we get regular emails on things to update and a good structure to follow of exams to complete, and a structure of work vs university work.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I feel I recieve a lot of support from my employer - we have career coaches, mine is especially nice and regularly checks up on me. I know I can message them whenever I have a query or concern and they will respond with a solution. The university also provides lots of support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I recieve some support from the training provider of ICAEW, but more from my university who provide exam guidance, text books and classes for us to attend to enhance our knowledge when working towards our qualifications and final exams. I feel very supported by the university when working towards our qualifications.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I think my qualification helps me perform better in my role as it allows me to understand different topic areas which I can then apply when completing my work within my role. I am able to learn about accounting and then apply it in the industry work place which is good.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes, lots of extra curricular activities are available however not as many due to COVID restrictions and working from home environment. However there are opportunities for end of job socials, and coffee mornings which is a nice break compared to the work. There are also sports teams when not in covid.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend PwC to a friend as you get lots of experience in different industrys and areas which is great to apply in the future. There is also plenty of support in the form of career coaches and contact with the university which is very helpful and something I would recommend
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
Tips and advice i would give to others is to really understand the industry and apply the learning you have made at university to your application as this shows huge interest. I would also advise to keep up to date on regular news relating to finance as this is very relevant.
