Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I am a civil operations apprentice learning to become a design engineer. I am on a stress role placement where I am to undertake stress analysis of engine components.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
It’s varies frequently. Sometimes I will complete work I really enjoy, whereas there are times where the work is not engaging and the workload I sometimes face really damages my healthy work life balance.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
Yes I have learnt a variety of new skills. These are mainly practical skills as we have only just began placements in which we will learn more technical skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The program is structured well however Covid has effected how we are able to operate. This has meant since returning to work after furlough we have had reduced time on all training and we have had little time prepare for placement.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
My employer is reachable for advice or help most of the time. Usually they resolve my issues however there have been cases where things have not been resolved and they have reflected poorly on myself.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Help is provided as and when required. Currently we have only completed an NVQ level 2 at work (aside from uni) so not much help has been required thus far.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
This is very difficult to know right now. When we have had more experience within placements we will have a better understanding for if the qualifications actually help out performance.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Yes there are a range of things to get involved in as and when you have the time available.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Rolls-Royce to a friend?
No
Why?
Sometimes it is hard to question if the work you is beneficial to becoming a design engineer. And I would just make them aware about the intensity of the workload between uni and work as this has been a large impact on my life.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Rolls-Royce?
Be open to learning a variety of new skills and make sure you are happy to undertake a workload from both RR and university.
