Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role includes checking customers in, checking they have the correct travel documents. I also board passengers at the gate, checking the passport details matches the boarding pass. Meeting aircraft arrivals as well as working in the lounge, giving access to our premium executive card holders.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I have fairly enjoyed the programme. However the current pandemic has impacted it significantly.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I have developed my existing customer service skills such as dealing with difficult customers/situations as well as working under pressure.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The programme is structured well. We did receive a general outline at the beginning of the programme detailing the training/workshops we’d be expected to complete over the duration of the course.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
The operations manager for the apprenticeship team was really lovely and supportive of all of us. She was always there to answer or chase queries we had. My performance manager in the terminal was also very supportive.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My training provider was supportive. We’d go over topics more than one time to make sure that I understood. I would be sent examples and resources that could help with completing my work when struggling for ideas. I was also given one to one time if necessary.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I feel like the qualification was helpful to a certain extent when performing in my role. The qualification is about general aviation and a lot of things can differ slightly when working for a company.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are some activities to get involved with when it comes to Christmas, Red Nose Day etc. Specifically with the apprenticeship programme, there is an apprenticeship forum each year as well as career events we can take part in.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend British Airways to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend British Airways to a friend as they are flexible when it comes to shift hours. The company is really big so if you need any days off, you can swap with colleagues. It’s a good company to work for.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to British Airways?
I would say make sure to have a positive attitude, be resilient and be prepared to go the extra mile.
