I work across 3 key areas of Client Service and help with a number of different tasks within each area, however also help with other things as and when needed.
On a day to day basis I will support with the following:
- Building reports in Excel
- Client communications
- Internal and external stakeholder management
- Internal relationship building

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I would have to say that I genuinely really enjoy my programme and feel like should you wish to be stretched and pushed you are 100% allowed to make this happen.
People want you to succeed and definitely go out of their way to help make that happen for you.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have both learnt and developed new skills in my short time at ASI, some of which are below:
- Presentation skills (presenting to a large number of internal and external people)
- Excel
- Learned how to use internal tools like Salesforce
- Email communications
- External stakeholder management
- Time management
- Technical Analysis
And lots of others.

Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme seems very well structured and organised. There are regular training sessions provided by internal and external providers which are always very useful.
Along with the training there are also regular catch ups for all members of the programme and I believe we all catch up with our managers directly at least once or twice per week.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer is very supporting - as mentioned there are regular training sessions with at least one per month. On top of this I am often asked to attend other session being ran internally or I am asked if I would like to complete other external qualifications. The support really goes a long way in helping.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The course that I am completing does not require me to have lots of contact with the training provider. That being said I am regularly set tasks to complete by my provider and we also have at least 1 catch up per month to see how things are going and if anything can be changed/improved upon.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My qualifications feels just like an extension of my role in the company. Often I will complete a task in my role and this will align nicely with something set by my training provider, allowing me to use my qualification effectively. This helps me to put my training into practice and I like the way this works.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

With covid extra activities have been really difficult. That being said there are often different internal network sessions being ran where you get the opportunity to speak to senior managers and to ask them question.
I also got involved in the company wide Strava tournament which was a good fun challenge.

I believe that there is a job for everyone at ASI and I also believe that you are able to fit into somewhere comfortably and with ease.
ASI is a friendly warm environment where I believe you are able to develop and gain experiences that you wont get anywhere else.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to abrdn?
One key tip I have for anyone wanting to apply to ASI:
- Try to be friendly and approachable, I strongly believe that ASI look at your soft skills and are likely to make a decision based on that (they want you to fit the companies culture and this is very important to them, especially going forward)
