Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Within Internal Audit Operations there is a vast world of work that needs to be covered on a daily basis, this is due to the overarching position that we sit in above the audit teams to help enable them function more autonomously.
I am always in dialogue with different members of my team and contribute to pieces of work and projects that are being carried out. Right from the start I was trusted with quite important pieces of work and have been able to build up a regular work flow that keeps me busy but also lends a hand to those around me.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
As much as social activity has been hampered by the restrictions set due to COVID, I have still found the ability to enjoy my time so far within SLA due to the great team I have around me and the culture that is embedded within the Internal Audit function. Overall my expectations of support and connection have been met and I'm sure as time goes on I will get even more joy from my role and those around me.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Throughout my time within the role in Operations I have been able to expand my skill set with courses both within the apprenticeship but also some of which have been provided by the business. One of note is being given the opportunity to complete a CISI CPD which is a great certificate to have on my CV, especially in the world of investment.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The overall structure of the programme has been brilliant. With help from the early careers team and my own individual team I have been given the support I have needed within my role on the job as well as the with my essential work on the qualifications.
I am given more than my fair share of work which keeps me busy and gives me the opportunity to showcase myself and the work I can provide going forward.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Although I have not needed to request support on specific matters within the business as of yet, I still feel as though I can rely on those around me in the company to supply and kind of support I may need and there is definitely suitable guidance on what to do if there is ever any need to ask for and sort of help.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Overall I have felt supported in every aspect of my qualification. Accessing resources and information is easy as my tutor provides all items that may be needed to help me progress and complete each section of my qualification. The support in areas that I need clarification has been exactly what I needed and I feel a continued level of care and consideration is taken to ensure I have the best chances of passing.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Some aspects of the qualification have definitely help me within my role, an example of this is the excel modules giving me more insight to areas of excel I didn't know I could use for individual pieces of work I would be carrying out on a day to day basis.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Although opportunities have been limited due to COVID, there has always been something going on, whether that be YPDN calls with higher ups within the business or opportunities to go and volunteer for charities. There haven't been many company events but the amount of training possibilities can more than make up for that.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend abrdn to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Since starting I have been given nothing but confidence and support from those around me and it definitely feels like a culture that is willing to nourish and develop talent that comes through the door. This is done through various opportunities for self development as well as personal support form fellow members within my own team
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to abrdn?
Be yourself. A lot of what the company is looking for is personality and the ability to think differently, there is an understanding that if we can mix different people it will provide more ideas and a better outcome for so many different projects and pieces of work that can be produced.
