Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

On a day-to-day basic, I would usually open the pub making sure everything is set and ready for the morning shift people. I manage staff making sure guests get the best customer experience. Following to the evening, I would then close the pub making sure it’s all set for the next morning manager. I also help keep on top of paper work that is mandatory to be filled out. I fill spaces that need help, hosting, serving, working on the bar and even running food.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I would 100% recommend my program, I love going on workshops. I’ve meet so many new people in different job roles, you get to see how people think and feel about a certain subject that you might have thought differently about. As well as hearing what these people have experienced and what works for them, hints and tips.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Before I started this course I was a waitress with little experience on how to manage a pub or staff member. I found it easy to learn the technical computer work. But skills I have had to develop is my staff and customer engagement. My apprentice has really helped me on helping my team, it’s given me good valuable skills on how to develop my team. From setting business and staff goals, to how I would handle customer complains

How well organised/structured is your programme?

So organised, my whole program was planned the minute I started, all my workshops were booked in and you have a step leader for your modules. I had monthly checkup, to fill in gaps and guide me to were I then needed to go.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

All my managers are a phone call away, with covid it’s a little hard to practice my skills but I know as soon as I can go back they will be there to help me transition.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The most supportive, any questions I have all I have to do is message them via email. They aren’t all in the office but it’s never longer than a couple of days. You’ll get an answer within the week.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

It’s helped me so much, the supervisor I am today is all because of this course. You look at so many different aspects in my course, from finance to managing people.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Unfortunately given the time I joined the course I haven’t had the opportunity to have many extra-curricula activities. I had one event put on by hit training based on resilience. But due to covid it has been so difficult to do such things.

Why?
For anyone who wants to progress in marstons or even wants to get into management it’s a huge help. This is something I can from job to job. I getting to learn and experience the job role at the same time.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Marstons?
Be open to learn everything, even if it’s not apart of the course, or you don’t think it’s relevant. Sign up to extra Webinars. You could never learn enough and it will all come in handy in your end point assessment.
