Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Supoorting on engineering tasks within a range of departments throughout the business engineering departments, taking a day out a week to complete university tutorials and lectures.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
The programme is only enjoyable if the placement you are put within is any good. These are really very dependent on what work you are given and what tasks you have to undertake. As well as whether that sector of engineering you enjoy. If you are put in a placement that is somethig you don't find interesting or doesn't challenge you then you don't tend to enjoy it.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
Yes, i have a learnt a wide range of skills from engineering specific to broader more business related skills. These skills have been obtained during college and university as well as within the business placements.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
The organisation has lacked in many places but as time goes on the apprentieship is starting to feel more organised and structured. The university side of the programme always seems to have lots of problems and theres lots of communication lacking between the company and themselves.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
We receive a fair amount of support from our employer especially our apprentice development leader who is excellent. If we ever need any additional support she will always try to facilitate this.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
The support from the university is usually lacking and they only tend to help during tutorials which happen once a week. They can be contacted via email but the response from this is usual minimal or nothing will be sent at all. They give us the bare minimum for us to complete the coursework and exams.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The majority of the information i am learning within university i haven't needed once within my business placements. The knowledge is always useful to have and a few things have been carried over such as project management skills and Matlab but the vast majority doesn't assist us in work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
Yes, but only if you are signed up to the apprenticeship association which cost £1.30 a month. This is also always taken over by graduates and the activities are usually aimed towards them rather than the apprentices.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Rolls-Royce to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Only because they pay for your degree and are a very well known company to have been on an apprenticeship with and therefore will put you in very good stead for any future career you wish to pursue whether that being within Rolls-Royce or at another company.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Rolls-Royce?
Apply early as they take the first 12 people they like through to interview and then only if they don't like all 12 after interview will they take on another 12 to interview at a later date.
