Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Depended of the placement I am in. Currently i'm working as a project controller, managing the sub-system budget risk, schedule, organising the sub-system reviews and maintaining the Kanban board. I also get involved in Supply Chain meetings, ensuring that the parts for the sub-system are being delivered on time.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my programme a lot, we gain experience in lots of different areas of the business, with us changing placement every 6 months. every line manager I have had is very keen to help e hit my competencies for my apprenticeship.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Throughout my apprenticeship, yes. We have to meet 25 competencies, which we assessed ourselves against at the start of the programme. I have developed in all of the 25 competencies, such as managing budget, change control, schedule, resource and quality, just to name a few.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
There have been many changes to our programme since we have started. As we are the first year to complete the programme we are on, it was a learning curve for all involved. It was slightly concerning that they didn't know how we would come of scheme at the end of the apprenticeship which has since been rectified.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
We have 8 weekly reviews with our ADL ( Apprentice Development Lead ) however not much support unless we contact them. I have weekly calls with my line manager, who is more supportive.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
we meet every week as a class on a Monday, and any questions are answered then. For our assignments it can be hard to get useful feedback from the tutor.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
Well. Most of the skills we learn about are used differently within the company, but can be useful to know more about the subject. Some topics relate more to the business then others.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes, however with covid these are limited. Football, netball and most sports activities are available as groups. There are social groups such as African & Caribbean Professional Network (ACPN)

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Rolls-Royce to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Great support and experience. Provide you with qualifications, not just from the apprenticeship standard but industry standard.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Rolls-Royce?
Show your people skills. If you are involved with volunteering work, such as cadets, talk about this and your responsibilities. Be calm and confident. Show you can work well as a team, but can also work individually.
