Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
The virtual experience involved a mix of HR and Business Speaker led events and days in specific placements working under your line manager . The work you do will be dependent on the placement you are in which is picked a random. In my placement I spent time joining meetings with my mangers and completing tasks set by him. Throughout the internship we had to work on a Business Project and also a CSR project
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given a moderate level of responsibly. My manger would give me a brief for a task and I would have to go and independently research the task at hand. I would have to create reports and slide decks that I had to then present to senior stakeholders within my division. My reports and presentations were then acted on where we had to procure items for the bank. The fact that my actions led to such a result meant that I definitely had a lot of responsibility

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have developed a wide range of skills. One of the the most important ones was to effectively network within the Bank. As I spoke to more and more people about their experiences my confidence increased. This helped to me deliver high quality presentations at the end of my experience which was highly commended by my manager. I also developed close relationships with the rest of my intern cohort and really put myself out there.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I had support firstly from my line manager who I could always call if I was stuck on a task or did not understand something. The team I was placed in was also very friendly and would constantly give pointers. Outside of my placement I could also speak to my graduate buddy about anything I had in mind. My graduate buddy offered sound advice with regards to the my future career and the end of the internship and was well placed to do so.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Everyone who I emailed to have a quick chat about were really friendly and offered their time to go through their experience at the Bank. This gave me a unique insight into what the bank was actually like with regards to culture. The general atmosphere was upbeat there would always be events company wide that I could attend if I had time in the day. As an intern social wise we had a range of activities to do such as Murder Mystery and Among Us.

Thoroughly enjoyed my experience regardless of the virtual nature of the programme. I loved working with my team who were really supportive. I enjoyed learning new skills and applying them on the job. I also enjoyed learning about the rest of the intern cohort with each person bringing their own unique experiences on the programme. I loved the company culture and the direction in which senior management is taking the bank. I would definitely go back and the programme exceeded my expectations.
