Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Running a team of around 30 people at Gloucester food warehouse. This involves completing staff rotas, planning store changeovers with my manager and managing a team.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy doing the programme when I see the correlation it has back to work. When I can see the relevance and how closely what I’m learning links into real life experiences, it all feels worth it. I’be learnt a lot from the programme

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have improved my leadership skills massively since starting this apprenticeship. I now feel confident in running the entire store and team whilst my manager is away.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

I think the programme is organised, every week I know what my next steps are and when I’m seeing my trainer again. I like the portal I think it’s useful for keeping track
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer is very supportive but we have so much to do at work that I don’t receive any help because I never as nor take any time out of work to do my apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My trainee is very supportive. He always lets me know he’s there to ask any questions so I feel as though I can email him if I need the extra support.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I think doing this apprenticeship is helping me have that bit of extra knowledge around my job which has helped me gain so much confidence in store.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Not really. We have a talent meeting every so often that you can go to if you’re thinking you may want to progress. They talk you through the options available in the business.

Why?
At Iceland Food Warehouse we are all part of one team and just like family, it really shows on our Facebook forum. Everyone wants to help and encourage each other and I love that! If you want to progress then they will push you to do so, every manager I’ve had has done exactly that.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Iceland Frozen Foods?
If you are willing to work extremely hard (you’ll be knackered every shift) then do it! The team will no doubt be welcoming and helpful so speak to them about it.
