Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am a duty manager, my role involves opening the store at 6am. Do any daily tasks that may have come down during the night, daily counts to ensure high theft line inventory is correct, bring in the deliveries ie. Depot delivery and bread/milk deliveries, the issuing of tills, enusring the shop is ready to open and all off sales have been investigated. I am in charge of the chilled section so that needs to be packed out into store. Open the store at 9am for customers.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really do enjoy my apprenticeship, it doesn't just give you a qualification at the end of if, but it also makes you think about yourself in that I mean it makes you think of the kind of person you are, could you be better in the work environment. I think my colleagues have noticed a change in my attitude. I would recommend this programme to anyone thinking of doing it.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Since starting my apprenticeship, I find myself working more on alot of the content in the modules I have covered so far. I am always open to learning new things, and hopefully will continue to develop my skills

How well organised/structured is your programme?

I find it to be fluid, it pushes you to think of things that I may not usually think of in regards to my career. I find the modules interesting and informative. I know my work coach is available to talk me through anything I'm not sure on and the meetings whether they be over the telephone or face to face are do in a way, were i feel relaxed and not put on the spot. I couldn't ask for a better organisation to be in charge of my apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer is always there if I need support, from head office to area manager to my store manager. They always make the time if I need it.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My training provider(coach) from the start made it clear i could alway contact him if i needed his help, whether its by email or telephone. The training provider website is also full of information and help if I need it .
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

So far with the modules covered, it has made me stop and think quite a bit in my role, from customer service to how I communicate with people, how I approach my work and at what level I do my work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Before Covid-19 came onto the scene, we used to have social meetings within our own stores, and also as company they would orgainse area social events. I am not aware of any professional networking events that are available to duty managers.

Yes
Why?
Its a great company to work for, each store is like a extended family. There is always progression in your role you can go for. The benefits that iceland offer throughout the year is always a added bonus too.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Iceland Frozen Foods?
Be yourself, they aren't looking for the next Malcolm Walker. They are more interested in you as a person, show your personality.
