Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
working on engineering calculations to determine building loads.
discussing different heating, cooling and air solutions with internal and external colleges.
producing design drawings in CAD software to show design intent.
studying part time at university to expand knowledge of work.
contacting manufactures to discuss their product and solutions
selecting and sizing appropriate plant equipment
selecting and sizing appropriate routes and placement for grilles, ductwork and pipework
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
Being encouraged to try new areas of work by team members and being giving more responsibility to take control of the work you produce.
TBA have exceeded my expectations as employers by being very approachable in any situation.
working at TBA is enjoyable because the people are supportive and great to be around
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
Completing CSCS training and test to visit project construction sites.
Completing asbestos awareness and manual lifting courses internally.
Attending a range of CPD's from manufactures on many different topics such as 'plant room sizing' and 'ventilation design'
Learning how to work effectively within a team to produce high quality work.
Communicating effectively to different people within the industry.
Becoming proficient in autoCAD software.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?
We are inducted with a range of other new apprentices to help with the settling in process.
We receive internal training on asbestos awareness, fire safety and manual lifting. also on how to use printers and continuous help and lessons on how to use autoCAD.
Competency logs are kept and updated continuously with dedicated training mentors, this ensures we are progressing at a measurable rate.
Team structure is good at TBA, we are assigned a training mentor and line manager who are in regular contact to ensure we are learning a range of things.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
we can easily ask questions to our team partner or our HR head about the apprenticeship and any concerns we have.
when we do ask a question or have a problem we are always supported fully by the company and they will look to resolve the problem as best they can.
TBA are more than happy to help us at any time.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
I feel I have a much deeper pool of knowledge about the industry I work in now than I did before I stated the qualification.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
A whole company away weekend is planned to celebrate the companies 50th anniversary.
Individual teams often have work social nights out which usually include an activity and some food and drink.
We also have the opportunity to take part in charity event such as tough mudder and football event
