Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Working on audit engagement teams for a number of international clients. This involves both planning the engagement and then performing the testing to contribute to the final product: the clients Financial Statements.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
The flying start degree programme is second to none, I still get the experience of being a university student but also get to see the more professional side of the business world

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have developed my professionalism as a whole by dealing with clients quite frequently on a day-to-day basis.
I have also developed a great sense of time management during my placement as you have to streamline your time between meetings, client correspondence and documentation.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The division of time between placement and university is perfect for someone my age.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I have a designated career coach and then you have your engagement teams who are just as helpful. You also have the support of your fellow course students who are all in the same position.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Not applicable to the placement, covered in my university terms.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The ICAEW exams I complete at university build a great base for development when I go into engagement teams and am responsible for certain financial statement line items testing.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Due to the difficult circumstances with COVID, the social committee cannot perform to the best of their abilities as they normally would but they still do a great job of creating office socials virtually and are greatly appreciated by the office as a whole.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Great firm with a solid support system in place. In particular the flying start degree program I feel is a hidden gem in university degrees as most the people I speak to at university in the business school don't specifically know how good the programme really is.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
Teamwork is crucial to any line of business in PwC, you have to work in good harmison with others as an audit engagement is dependent on a huge team effort not talented individuals. Self-leadership is also a valuable skill as you have to be aware of your progress and be sure to take on more work if you have the capacity. The technical skills play a huge part in your understanding of the work also.
