Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I efficiently allocated my time when being assigned to 3 entities at once, assigning more of my time to the entities that were perhaps more complex and closer to clearing. I also took part in internal kick of meetings. Similarly, I sought to help the rest of the team when meeting a tight deadline i.e. taking on other people’s working so that we could get entities closer to clearing. During this period, I also made sure to help with any miscellaneous tasks that those more senior needed help with, whenever I had any spare time.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have really enjoyed my time so far at PwC mainly down to the team I got to work alongside who were both welcoming and helpful. This meant I built good relationships within the PwC team not only when working alongside people when doing things on a wide range of entities, but by also actively taking part in tri-weekly team catch up calls. During which we didn't speak only about work which helped me to feel more comfortable
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I applied my training of Alteryx to use the PDF comment extraction to excel tool to extract manager and engagements leader comments, so that they could be inserted directly into the relevant EGAS. This proved a time efficient skill as it meant that I didn’t have to manually extract the comments for the PDF files.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

I think the structure is fantastic as not only have I been able to experience the university life style, which has allowed me to build another life somewhere else in the UK. But the degree also allows me to gain invaluable work experience in an industry I seriously want to pursue in the future, as well applying the things that I learn in my university degree in the workplace which is in my eyes very important.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

For every piece of work I did, a senior put aside time not only to check through it and give me coaching notes, but also arranged calls with myself to know exactly what I can improve on to help develop my future documentation.
they were also very helpful and knowledgeable when it came to any kind of query I had, constantly taking time out of their day to help fill gaps in any areas of my accounting knowledge that I wasn’t 100% sure on, so that I have a full understanding of whatever I needed to carry out testing.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

ICAEW alongside Nottingham university teach us the fundamental parts of accounting. The education we receive from them both does not only help me in my working placements at PwC as the knowledge I have gained has helped me in the world of accounting as there is many transferable skills from my education to my work. The support ICAEW also provides is forcasting and booking in any of my exams I need to gain my ACA qualification.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The education I receive from ICAEW helps me very much in my working placements that I do PwC as the knowledge I have gained has helped me in the world of accounting as there is many transferable skills from my education to my work. For example I have sat exams in audit and assurance which form the basis of being an accountant and the ethics I need to follow and abide when at working for my employer.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
Do not apply purely as an academic you also need to pose yourself as a confident and independent person as they are two hugely important attributes if you want to build a career at PwC.
