Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the virtual experience and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
We had a daily schedule for the entire 8 week internship with what we need to do everyday. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays we would work on a group Business Project and a CSR intern competition challenge to raise money for charity. On Tuesdays and Thursdays we would work in our placements with our managers and teams to get to know our field better and add value on a day-to-day.
The placement days were more hectic, but more insightful. The other days you would spend getting to know other interns and going to development sessions and speakers.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was very interesting to be able to reach out to other interns and even department heads for a quick zoom-chat. The teams are so nice, helpful and supportive and whenever you need any help, they are there for you, which is great especially in an online environment.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
Extensive marketing skills, a bit of Python, connectivity and working with people on Zoom all day (people you haven't met before), how to voice your feedback and challenge existing opinions, how to work at pace and meet the fast deadlines with quality work, etc.
Learned how to edit campaign posters, about target audiences, how to even create our own communications design. Focus on change ready and resilience, as well as critically thinking about everything you are working on.

Company Culture

How would you rate business leader involvement during the virtual experience
4/5
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
It was great. Everyone is helpful, nice, always available to chat and support you in any way possible. All the interns are very kind and interesting. It has been an amazing experience to get to know such driven and ambitious individuals. Also, it is fantastic that you can just email a head of a department and they'll answer quickly and will make themselves available to talk to you about what they do to give you more insight.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the virtual experience?
Whilst I would prefer being in-person, it has been easy to talk to people and develop relationships with them. Even meeting some face-to-face after-work. There is a clear structure and I've never felt at a loss of what I am meant to be doing.

Recommendations and Advice

Would you recommend NatWest Group to a friend?
Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest Group
I would recommend for you to be open to change, put yourself in challenging situations and overcome them, ask a lot of questions and shoot emails out to anyone in any part of the bank you are interested in to get some insight and talk to new people. Really focus on getting to know others and seeing what they do -- being connected is very important. Try your best and don't be afraid to give your opinions and feedback. They really do value your fresh perspectives and want to hear it.
