Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role is producing turbine blade parts for all type of engines. Depending on the section, i could either be machining the part or inspecting the work that has already been completed
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I have enjoyed my programme a lot, it has given me even more interest in the field. I enjoy changing placements every so often and getting to know a different team within the building. This then makes you feel more part of the company as comfortable in work situation. There has been a few issues with organisation and planning that should have been done before we started

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed a large amount of engineering skills whilst working here, as i previously do not have much experience in the field, other than DT work in school. Also, we are sent on many training courses either focused on the work we are doing or ourselves as individuals.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Placements and day to day training has always been well organised and can be adapted when required. There has been a lot of issues with training from the college side and organisation with units, teachers etc. Also over the past couple of years our support mentors, ADL, have chopped and changed frequently or we had none
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from my employer, there are regular meeting where we can all be listened to, regular meetings about progress and how we are finding each placement and other support can easily be reached
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Overall there has been limited support from the training provider. Some tutors have been supportive and other haven't been what so ever. When we had problems at the start of the academic year we were told to keep telling different people and the responsibility kept shifting from one person to another. When spoken to by the company there was more support available but this was very late
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My qualifications from my training provider has given me the very basic understandings so that i can go into my workplace and understand or find it easier to learn the processes that are completed in making components.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There is an apprentice association that you can be involved in that do payday activities and events and do larger yearly social events. Also, within the building there are often big social events, such as Christmas outings

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Rolls-Royce to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Although there has been issues, i think they are one of the best companies to train with and always support you to finish the qualification
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Rolls-Royce?
Any information given to you about the interviews and assessments days, revise it a lot as there will be questions about the information pack you are given. Following the information and guidance they give as they have tried to make the interviews and assessments days as clear and simple as possible
