Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am a machinist, this involved running CNC machines to produce nozzle guide vanes, i check the parts I machine using CMM machines and fill out paper work.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my programme a lot. It has been a great experience, one thing I enjoyed most was the second year outwards bound trip, it really pushed me out of my comfort zone.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt some CNC programming at college which was a new skill, I have developed manual machining skills and CNC operating skills. Also I have improved a lot in my mathematical abilities.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
the programme is abit disorganised in the sense that in my department they have not had apprentices in a few years so things need to be updated and I believe there should be more clear communication with our college.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive a great deal of support from my employer, even now while being furloughed and on a funding break my ADL still checks in on me to see how I am coping.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
we received a lot of support working towards qualifications but again I believe there should be more clear communication between the business and training provider.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I believe that the qualification we do for the training provider does help towards are role but it would be better if it was abit more role specific. As we do a lot of manual machining with our training provider and only CNC at work .
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are extracurricular activities through the apprentice association that we can join.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Rolls-Royce to a friend?
Yes
Why?
because it is a world wide company that looks after their employees wellbeing and set you up for a great career.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Rolls-Royce?
believe in yourself when applying, I put off applying for the job for a couple of years due to not believing I would get taken on.
Most importantly be yourself, Rolls-Royce are more likely to take you on for your personality and for being ambitious than for high grades.
