Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My Role is to fabricate sheet metal parts using different methods as well as learn how to Weld. Along with this I have college work based on different units and aspects of engineering. As I have not started placement yet I have describe what I do during the day at the apprentice centre.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy all parts of my programme and I find it to be very fun and interesting at the same time. I am always engaged and can always find something to do so I’m never bored.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
My New Skills include: Learninf how to bend and form metal using a mallet and an anvil. Using different types on machinery when sheet metal working. Learning how to weld with TIG, MIG and MMA techniques.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Sometimes I find that working here can be a little difficult at times as some things can be inconsistent, this could be the delivery of information or the messages from our ADLs not all being to same or following the same rules. This confuses me at times
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I know that there is support if I need it however some of the managers and office staff tend to not be easy to talk to or sympathetic at times leaving me to feel alone. I find it hard to talk to people about my problems but if I was going to I’d feel more comfortable doing it with a member of the shopfloor staff.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
I don’t receive an awful lot, it seems that sometimes the training provider doesn’t care or want to listen to what you have to say in regards to the delivery of college units. I’m a couple of instances many apprentices have had problems with lecturers and these have been swept under the carpet until it is too late. Some of the lectures are not adequate and struggle to convey and articulate certain units.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
My job role is extremely hands on so some of the units won’t be of any use to me once I’m in the business as they are more for the office bases apprentices.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
I’m not too sure, if there is then they aren’t advertised very well and I haven’t come across anything. It would be good if the apprentices has there own sports clubs as many of them don’t have hobbies at home.
