Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Providing technical support on a selection of projects and teams throughout the Rolls-Royce maintenance repair and overhaul sector. Including things such as running new projects and helping improve the business. I can also be relied on to help induct engines and help teams meet goals. A few times I will also be asked to help out with quality issues. Being a technical it allows me to be called on for improvement, quality, logistics, planning and development in all aspects of the company
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I absolutely love my program. My program allows me to experience all kinda of aspects of Rolls-Royce. This includes logistics, business improve, technical planning, operations and much more. My program allows me to see the very start and end of the company and how things run and how they can be improved. This helps make sure that no day is a boring day and allows me to explore what I do and don’t like about work. It is a grate program to gain experience and transferable skills that will be useful in all kinds of situations.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Developed skills :
Publics speaking, Team working, Work prioritisation, can do attitude, thinking outside of the box, balancing a workforce, never thinking negatively about a task or job, thinking on my feet with quick turnaround times, understanding and utilising my strengths,
New skills :
Time management, social skills, saying yes to new tasks, open mind, team building, brain storming, being able to hit the ground running, knowing my weaknesses and being able to self improve, knowing when to take a step back and (fail fast)

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
My program is somewhat organised. Due to being a technical we could be expected to join and work anywhere at any given point depending on where the business will need me. This means that the job I’m doing now may not be anything like my final job. Although the structure we are given clearly allows us to experience the 4 main pillars of our maintenance and repair system and how it all works. Therefore I feel the apprenticeship itself is well structured.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer has always tried to support me where necessary. This includes anything from help at college or work from laptops to training aids. They are also very keen in providing support in the way of ADLs (Apprentice Development Leaders) this helps all the apprentices to feel includes and supported by the company they work for. Not to mention all the staff and managers are highly trained in providing and knowing when to support their employees.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
My training provider has always worked closely with my company and personal lectures to insure that my qualification will be met and that I am on track. Although with some hiccups due to teachers leaving etc the college always tried their best to provide the best support and work they could. This included fast tracking students that needed it etc and allowing us to work when the college would normally be shut for holidays etc. This was a great hand when needing to get crucial practical work finished.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My qualifications I feel help me gain a based understanding in engineering manufacturing and that helps from day to day. Some of my other qualifications are mostly future proofing and giving us an outlook on what engineering could be in the future and it helps us to improve the business and look at new ways of working. Therefore the qualifications i see are more of an aid of transferable skills then having the qualifications themselves.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
I am currently apart of the apprentice association and this allows me to join up with apprentices and grads alike to tour Bristol watch films play sports and much much more. This is very good especially for people who have moved for the opportunity for work. I also love helping out on STEM days and it being run by ourselves the apprentice as it lets us be free and use our own twist on how we would be expected to present the apprenticeship.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Rolls-Royce to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend Rolls-Royce to a friend on the basis that they would build them and improve them both as a person and their skills as well as giving them the opportunity to take up task and jobs that they would normally never be able todo while being supported by good members of staff and training providers alike. It is also a nice place to work due to the workers and what Rolls-Royce has to offer such as stem activity’s and apprentice days.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Rolls-Royce?
Your goals and mindset is everything along with being yourself in the interview. I found that having self drive and a good presentation about who, what, where, why, how and when considering my engineering outlook made me a good potential candidate as I was able to convey my drive and engineering passion and therefore why I was a good candied. I feel that doing that will make someone much more likely to be considered for a role.
