Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
There were a variety of tasks and interactions, including research and first drafts relating to client work as well as talks with members of the firm, contributions towards a pro bono project and group work on a business development presentation.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
Aside from client work, the business development group task, which took the form of a client pitch, was especially helpful for gaining an appreciation of the firm. For example, it involved researching the global capabilities of the firm and different teams. A presentation from the client pitch team was helpful in explaining how different teams across the firm work together and add value for clients.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
Feedback on tasks was comprehensive and useful, giving a great sense of how your contribution fit into broader client projects. This feedback and the associated conversations particularly strengthened practical research and professional conversation skills. You are left with a good insight into the work of a trainee solicitor and their place in the firm.

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
There was a strong focus on diversity and inclusion initiatives, sustainability and pro bono, including dedicated presentations from senior leaders concerning those areas. Both legal and non-legal members of the firm were very open to having a conversation, and many directly reached out. In particular, there was a partner based in Australia who put time aside to field questions from candidates despite time zone differences. Despite being virtual, several enjoyable socials were also arranged.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
The culture of the firm seemed really positive and inclusive, and the tasks were interesting and engaging. I believe that the Vacation Scheme gave a genuine and useful insight into what it would be like working as a trainee solicitor at the firm.
The experience surpassed my expectations, and I would definitely work at the firm in the future.
