Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My first rotation is in the Model Risk Management department. I have the job of maintaining the database which all of Barclays Models sit within. I do this by carrying out regular consistency checks on models which are being used within Barclays, making sure the documents submitted against them all align. I also carry out annual review tasks. With this i make sure all owners of models submit there annual review documents on time.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
It is challenging juggling work and study however the rewards are very much worth the challenge. My team is brilliant in supporting me so this does really help me enjoy my programme and the work i do is very interesting so it helps greatly in my enjoyment of the programme as well. Also Barclays has an amazing culture and makes it a pleasure to work for a company that cares about its staff.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes i have learnt how to work effectively within a team where many different cultures exist and personalities are present. This helped me be more diverse in my thinking and my working. Also i have learnt how to work under pressure and more efficiently. The final skill of many would be that i have learnt how to communicate with others due to the large team at Barclays.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Very well organised. I get 20% of my weekly hours dedicated to my study of my programme. Example: I'm contracted 35 hours a week so i get a day (7 hours) to dedicate to off the job training (study leave, workshops etc ) This is plenty of time to study and revise for my assignments.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from Barclays. for example my team are very flexible in when i can take my study leave days and Also my manager helps me in regards to any questions i have about anything! He encourages me to ask questions and he mentors me as to what i need to improve on etc. Barclays has a wealth of resources on the employee page. For example: mental healthy tips and hotlines, organisation tips and tricks and fun activities for staff to take part in (photo of the week) .
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I receive a lot of support in the form of training workshops, study days, development days, 6 weekly catch up calls with your talent coach and also i get an expert coach. I would prefer more workshop days however the few we have are very helpful.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I learn things like acting with integrity and accountability which relates directly into my role at Barclays. Also i learn the history and reason why we have certain regulation etc which is directly applicable to my current job role and helps me act ethically in my job.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes there are many of these activities to many to list! It can be found on the Barclays staff portal, for example there are virtual discussions on which they talk about podcasts and books of the week or there is a photo of the week activity etc.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
Yes
Why?
"Would you recommend undefined to a friend?" Apologies i don't understand the question but if you are referring to Barclays i would 100%. Barclays offer huge amounts of support which is not normally given to apprentices for a large bank but Barclays expose you to so much but support you at the same time
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
Again i assume you mean Barclays but i would say showing you can work in a diverse work force would top all other attributes which you could present to Barclays. This is because you will work with many different types of people so you will have to show you can adapt and work well. Also i would focus on ethics and integrity. This plays such a huge part in banking nowadays and Barclays look for this attribute in employees.
