Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
People and Organisation Consultant in the Private Sector. I was placed on Project Management teams for several projects throughout the year. I was responsible for looking after the projects resourcing costs, as well as communications for the project as a whole. I was also placed on a team of tech testing, specialising in introducing a new financial system for a financial holdings firm. I was also responsible for Organising team events, so that each resource could reflect on their work throughout their project journey.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoyed my time at PwC. Throughout the year I was placed on three main projects where I was able to travel around the UK. I was incredibly lucky to be placed on client projects with different sized organisations. This was an eye opener for how organisations of different sizes functions. I learnt an incredible amount of new skills, ranging from new IT Skills to improving on my Organisation skills. I enjoyed my time.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Throughout the year I have acquired many new skills, which I am eager to build at my last year of University. My Communication skills have improved significantly, through being placed on projects within Project Management teams. I have built upon my self-confidence skills by taking more risks and reaching out to distance employees in the firm to try and learn as much as possible during the year. Learning as much as I possibly can is something, I found to be incredibly important at PwC and I am excited to maintain this quality going forward through my career.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme was incredibly well structured. With having a Senior Manager in my Competency as my Career coach I always felt as if I had a supervisor to look out for me and my wellbeing when it came to serious issues that could affect my time at PwC. I was also fortunate enough to be provided with an associate level personal buddy, who was able to answer any questions that the career coach may have been too busy for.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I was fortunate enough to attend several training session that related to my competency throughout my year at PwC. I was also supposed to attend a tech implementation programme which was sadly cancelled due to the coronavirus. As in the consulting branch we are not required to have an professional qualifications, these sessions were not targeted at working towards any professional qualifications in particular. However, there was not any specific limit to the number of training sessions I could attend.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
As in the consulting branch we are not required to have an professional qualifications. However, there was not any specific limit to the number of training sessions I could attend. Any of these sessions would have allowed me to perform better in my role. This is due to the fact that all of these sessions build on my skills that helped me perform my role in both a day to day, as well as an above and beyond capacity.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are plenty of extra curricular activities that are available throughout the year at PwC, in all locations based around this UK (meaning that they are incredibly accessible). There are clubs and sports teams that are available for anyone in the company to join, ranging from Football to Boxing. There are also opportunities for the more theatrical to get involved in a yearly pantomime, that changes location around the UK, with this years being held in Nottingham.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would encourage anyone I met to pursue a role at PwC, especially within the People and Organisation team located in Belfast. This is due to the fact that I have learnt a tonne of new and interesting skills, that I personally believe will contribute to a well rounded career. Furthermore, I am of the opinion that these skills can be used for projects in the last year of university, especially the additional communication skills I built.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
When the next individual who is looking at taking over the People and Organisation Business Placement role, located in Belfast, I would go out of my way to say that they should feel completely relaxed and at ease throughout the assessment center application, as well as the day itself. I was personally very stressed during my assessment centre event, especially as I found myself in a new country. However, no individual should feel nervous as everyone is so kind and caring.
