Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
As an intern I completed two seats, one in Corporate and one in Finance. I completed a variety of tasks including research, drafting documents, and taking notes on client calls.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, more responsibility than I was expecting given the short time period and limited hard skills going into the internship. I was consistently asked to draft documents and memos, which I then received feedback on. I was also tasked with drafting a memo for pro-bono work, client research, and document preparation.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I was given consistent feedback on my work, although sometimes a few days after having submitted. I was always able to find someone to answer any questions I had and I felt that everyone was highly encouraging of the learning process.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Very welcoming, despite everyone being very busy. Very communal, everyone went to lunch/ate lunch together and made an effort to socialize beyond their immediate work teams.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I enjoyed my internship immensely. Although it was only for a short time, it felt east to integrate into the firm, all the other interns were incredibly social and friendly, and the work was meaningful.

What advice would you give to others applying to DLA Piper
Be yourself, be friendly and work hard. Setting yourself apart from other candidates is key in the initial phases of the application, but it is equally about being a kind person who is willing to learn and not just impress.
