Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
Gained a better understanding of work was approached/executed in two practice areas. My work revolved around completing tasks for my supervisor and other people from the team whom I had interacted with.
Getting to know the people on my team and their work was highly encouraged, as long as we weren't overbearing or inconsiderate.
I completed an array of tasks including proofreading, research tasks, court visits, diagram-making and email correspondence.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was exciting to find about just how many things DLA Piper has to offer, as it is truly a global firm with a presence in many countries.
This was conveyed in the finance work that I undertook, with clients stretching from Ivory Coast to Kuwait.
Additionally, it was interesting to find out more about Partners' experience and their backgrounds.
Finally, I found out that you can do multiple seats of the TC in contentious areas which appeals to me

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have developed my interpersonal skills and soft skills such as being proactive, engaged and curious.
I have also developed an understanding of life as a commercial lawyer, including project finance (specifically EPC's how an SPV is funded etc.) as well as the due diligence and research required for arbitration and the steps leading up to litigation.

Company Culture

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight
4/5
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Incredibly helpful and supportive. People were far more receptive than I had anticipated, given their heavy workloads. Making time for us to ask questions and gain a deeper insight was especially helpful during coffee chats.
Other interns were generally very helpful and collaborative too, so it didn't feel like I was being chucked into a 3-week elbow tussle for a TC.
The facilities are amazing and the regular catch-ups with supervisors are much appreciated.
