Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
During the vacation scheme, I sat in two teams (one per week) and completed a research task in each. The days were filled with talks from representatives from different practice areas, some of which involved case studies. There were lots of opportunities to ask trainees/associates/partners questions about their experiences at Latham & Watkins. Social events were also hosted over the course of the two weeks which allowed participants to get to know one another.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
Various talks were held to give participants an insight into how the firm is run, and the various roles available and role stages during the training contract and beyond. It was very helpful to understand the route to qualification and Latham.

I have developed lots of new skills including: people skills in a corporate setting, time management/task prioritization, attention to detail, document reviewing and drafting, and communication skills. These have built on the soft skills I have developed during my time at University.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture and general atmosphere was very friendly, ambitious and overall impressive. Employees at all levels were very willing to help and answer any questions participants had.

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I thoroughly enjoyed the vacation scheme. It was great networking with both employees at the firm and other participants on the scheme. The social events hosted were also really enjoyable.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Latham & Watkins
For other applicants I would recommend researching the firm really well in advance of their application. The First Year Scheme (for first year uni students), Open Days, stands at University Law Fairs and online resources such as Legal Cheek are really helpful events/resources.
