Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
It’s mainly driving, but some employees do overstep the line when driving, making an unsafe environment. You’re constantly interacting with customers, a lot of the time them being unaware of how renting a vehicle works so they expect a lot more from you than we can actually provide. You do a lot of overtime at most branches, depends how large your branch is. A lot of admin work, and phone calls.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes and no, being at a very busy branch responsibilities where placed on everyone, so you were never really completing one project solely being the leader. You could be given one of the Key performance indicators, but you’d keep tabs on it and have meetings, one month it’d improve then next month it’d likely dip as it is a seasonal business. Otherwise it feels like a retail or hospitality job.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I’ve definitely become a better driver, and comfortable driving larger vehicles. Learning how to cope with difficult conversations, both employees and customers. Understanding how the car rental field works, and how much is behind running it.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
From the HR and talent team, they’d provided strong training and always willing to help with work issues. My branch manager would help when time allowed, but at a busy branch you will not get much one-to-one meaningful support or guidance. I have had a few issues and problems which felt like they’d been swept under, even after mentioning a few times. Pretty much just told to deal with it.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
It is very male heavy, which can lead to multiple sexist and rude comments being said in and out of branch, in front of customers and not. Most people are young, so it is a light hearted spirit in the branches, but can also show a lot of petty behaviour. Outside of the branch, most that i’ve met are welcoming, especially HR and talent team. Other management can be hit or miss.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
My year was amazing, up until some new hires which I had expressed my concerns, which had turned into bad road instances which the employee had no repercussions from, which was unacceptable. They’d continued behaving in the same way with no remorse. Had faced multiple sexist behaviours, which was very disheartening. The majority of the teams are lovely, and i’m upset my year had to end on a bad note.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Enterprise Mobility to a friend?
No
What advice would you give to others applying to Enterprise Mobility
You need to be committed to it, long hours, the good and bad customers, learning all the different systems and taking responsibility for your actions. They seem to hire almost anyone without checking their ability and work ethic, but for the job you need to be ready to give your all. It’s tough, but this is my experience, and from those i’ve spoken to, it’s unlikely that we’ll return.
