Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I was given an independent project to complete within my 12 month placement. Once I was trained in the lab on all the techniques I needed, I was allowed to work independently to complete my project in a self-guided way. Despite the independence, I was provided with support from my supervisor throughout the placement if I had any queries. Day-to-day varied depending on how much lab work I had to complete each week, some weeks would be more desk based to catch up on literature or perform data analysis, some weeks would be more lab based to complete an experiment.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, I was given responsibility to complete my individual project and produce results by the end of my placement.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have developed lots of new skills in the lab meaning I am confident working independently and how knowledge on new techniques in the lab. I have also developed lots of skills outside the lab such as networking and presentation skills.
