As part of the small inorganic trace analysis intelligence service at AstraZeneca, I conducted analyses and processed data for any projects in PT&D that require ICP-MS analysis in accordance with ICH 3D guidelines.

I was given the responsibility to carry out experiments/ analyses independently and also had the opportunity to conduct a self-led research project. Outside of the labs, I had to manage and organise my time effectively.

I have gained a wide range of practical skills in the labs by communicating with team to offer support in the lab and gaining more exposure to help define correct ways of working/ troubleshooting. I have also had the opportunity to develop existing skills like presenting and team work.

From the start of my placement, I had an industrial placement supervisor, who was very supportive and helpful if I had any questions or needed any help. I had regular meetings with my manager which was useful to track my progress and provided guidance on my next steps.

The company culture was very friendly and welcoming. Everyone was willing to help and made the effort to ensure I settled into my placement well. They also ensured my wellbeing was a priority.

I really enjoyed my placement because I got to meet a lot of incredible people along the way and had the opportunity to work with those that are specialists in their fields. The opportunities and training given to me have provided me with a strong skill set which I can utilise for future endeavours.
