Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
My day to day responsibilities include checking in customers, returning vehicles, selling protection products, assisting clients to the best of my ability and delivering and collecting cars at different parts of the county.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
My internship provided me with lots of independence and responsibility. They trusted me to run our airport branch for 80% of the day by myself. It gave me the confidence I needed to see how far I had grown and the skills I had learned so far in the internship. They trusted me to meet with customers and deal with the customer by myself which also helped build my confidence.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I’ve developed many skills such as problem solving. Often times the correct vehicles aren’t available at the correct time and learning to deal with situations like that has improved my problem solving skills and also my time management skills. My communication skills have also been enhanced since dealing with many customers throughout the day.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I received a lot of support and guidance through my internship. My colleagues and managers were very helpful, always eager to help me solve any issues I was having. They helped to explain daily tasks thoroughly and were patient when training me in. I received both in person and online training which helped enhance the skills I had learned. I was also given the opportunity to engage in catch up calls to help settle in.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture and general atmosphere was very positive. Colleagues were very helpful and friendly and were more than happy to assist me when I was learning the role. My manager was also extremely helpful and made sure to support and teach me when I found anything complicated or taxing.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I thorough enjoyed my placement as it gave me a taster for the real world business environment. It gave me the opportunity to experience job satisfaction while also being relatively new to the role. It made me feel as though I was contributing to the business and my colleagues made sure I felt important to the business.

I would advise any incoming employees to be patient with the job. It can be daunting initially but with time, you learn and develop your skills and gain confidence with the role. I would advise any incoming employees to give it time and be patient with the job and it will pay off.
