Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
As an intern at Enterprise Rent-A-Car, my role is focused on providing exceptional customer service while gaining hands-on experience in the daily operations of a branch. I support the team in a variety of areas, which allows me to develop key skills in sales, customer relations, and business management.
Customer Service: I interact directly with customers, assisting them with vehicle rentals, returns, and addressing any questions or concerns to ensure a positive experience.
Sales: I learn how to identify customer needs and promote additional products and services, such as insurance coverage or vehicle upgrades.
Fleet Management: I help manage the branch’s fleet by coordinating vehicle preparation, conducting vehicle inspections, and ensuring cars are clean, fueled, and ready for use.
Administrative Tasks: I assist with paperwork, contracts, and data entry to maintain accurate records and support branch efficiency.
Team Work: I work closely with branch managers and team members, gaining insight into leadership, problem-solving, and the daily operations that drive business success.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I am trusted with significant responsibilities that helps build my confidence and sense of accountability. One key aspect of this is being entrusted to drive a variety of vehicles — from compact cars to larger vans — ensuring they were delivered safely and on time for customers.
This required me to demonstrate excellent attention to detail when inspecting vehicles for damage, cleanliness, and fuel levels, as well as strong time management to coordinate pick-ups and drop-offs efficiently.
Being given this level of responsibility has helped me develop greater independence, reliability, and the ability to handle tasks that directly impact the company’s reputation and customer satisfaction.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
My communication skills have significantly improved by interacting daily with a diverse range of customers and colleagues. I’ve learned how to adapt my approach to different situations — whether resolving customer issues, explaining rental agreements clearly, or selling products and protections in a professional and persuasive manner.
In addition to communication, I have developed strong problem-solving skills by handling unexpected challenges, such as last-minute vehicle availability issues or customer complaints, and finding quick, effective solutions. I have also enhanced my teamwork and collaboration abilities by working closely with my branch team to meet targets and ensure smooth operations.
Finally, I’ve gained practical business management skills, including time management, multitasking, and an understanding of sales techniques and fleet logistics. These experiences have helped me become more confident, organised, and customer-focused in a busy, fast-paced environment.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I receive excellent support and guidance from my assistant managers and branch manager, who played a key role in my training and development. They are always willing to share their knowledge and experience, helping me build my confidence in customer interactions, sales techniques, and problem-solving on the job.
In addition, my internship coordinator at head office provides regular check-ins and feedback, ensuring that I am staying on track with my learning goals and have the resources I need to succeed. This supportive environment makes me feel valued as part of the team and motivates me to take on new challenges with a positive attitude.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
One of the highlights of my internship at Enterprise Rent-A-Car has been experiencing the company’s supportive and friendly culture. From my first day, I felt welcomed and valued as part of the team. The atmosphere in the branch is positive and energetic, with everyone working together to help each other succeed and deliver the best service to customers.
Colleagues at all levels — from fellow interns to assistant managers and the branch manager — are approachable, encouraging, and always willing to offer help or advice when needed. This collaborative environment made it easy to ask questions, learn new skills, and feel comfortable taking on new responsibilities.
Overall, the strong sense of teamwork and respect among employees creates a workplace where people genuinely get on well with one another, making each day enjoyable and motivating.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I am really enjoying my internship. One of the main things I like about it is that every day is different — I’m not just sitting at a desk all day. I get to move around, interact with customers face-to-face, work both inside the branch and outside with the vehicles, and handle a variety of tasks that keep me busy and engaged.
This active, hands-on environment suits me well because it means I’m constantly learning and developing new skills in real-life situations. The variety and pace make the workday go quickly, and the supportive team makes it an enjoyable place to be. Overall, my internship has been a great experience, and I feel motivated and positive about the work I do every day.

What advice would you give to others applying to Enterprise Mobility
My biggest advice for anyone applying to Enterprise Rent-A-Car is to show that you’re enthusiastic, flexible, and ready to work in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. This isn’t a typical office job — so highlight that you enjoy working with people, solving problems on the spot, and staying active throughout the day.
I’d also recommend researching the company’s values and culture beforehand. Enterprise really values teamwork, good communication, and a positive attitude, so be prepared to give examples of when you’ve worked well in a team or gone the extra mile for a customer.
Finally, don’t be afraid to ask questions during your interview — it shows genuine interest and helps you understand if the role is a good fit for you. If you’re open-minded, hard-working, and eager to learn, you’ll make the most of the experience and get a lot out of it.
