Integration Engineer Intern Review

My day-to-day includes being a technical point of contact for clients by explaining technical concepts to them, help with any debugging and testing, and ensuring that there are no issues once they go live. I am responsible for how the client is progressing with their integration and making sure that they are on track, and communicating with internal stakeholders if timelines change. I am also involved in various projects to ensure knowledge sharing across international teams.

I was put onto multiple projects outside of my day-to-day tasks. Near the start of the placement, I was already put onto an additional project where I primarily created and presented a training presentation for sales about a technical concept. Throughout my placement, I've been involved in different projects and I've been able to get involved with whatever different existing projects I'm interested in. Nearer to the end of my placement, I also was allowed to be the main lead for a new project within the team that I primarily pushed.

I have learnt lots of new technologies like NVP, GraphQL and mobile development. I've also developed my communication skills as a core part of the role is liaising with clients through emails and calls. I've also gained lots of corporate experience throught the year. There has also been lots of web development experience and debugging through various software components and stack traces. In addition, I've learnt lots about the finance industry and how money moves between systems in the background.

I received lots of training at the start of the placement and was assigned two buddies to help me throughout the placement. Whenever I was unsure of something, I could always ask my team or manager who would guide me to the correct place to get more help or resolve the issue, or would spend some time with me working though the query. Additionally, I could ask people outside of my team who were always willing to help.

Everyone in the office was very friendly and there is a reasonably sized placement cohort which was good as we got to know each other very well. People were always happy to talk to you as long as they weren't busy. There are also various groups within the company that celebrate diversity that you can join to attend events or help volunteer and plan. There were also some company events throughout the placement.

I thoroughly enjoyed the placement. I got to learn a lot both techincally and about the corporate experience. Everyone that I met was very friendly and our placement cohort was very close and good friends with each other.
