UIPS Process Engineering Review

My placement year project focused on improving modeling and predictive capabilities for the tablet coating process. The first half of the year was majority lab-based performing lab-scale investigations. I then moved into more project management type work to implement my findings into their commercial processes. This involved presenting my findings to stakeholders to leverage their support and working with production sites globally.

Yes, I was given the responsibility to design and conduct my own experiments as well as leading my project as a whole. I was responsible for reaching out to stakeholders and leading meetings and discussions related to my project. I was also given the responsibility to supervise a summer placement student.

Yes, I have gained experience in Design of Experiments and applying my theoretical knowledge to real-life industrial processes. I have developed confidence in presenting my work to leverage support for my project, as well as collaborating with people across the business.

I was very well supported by my project supervisor, who provided guidance throughout my placement and was always willing to make themselves available if I needed support. I also had regular 1:1 meeting with my line manager. In addition, my team members were always happy to support.

Overall, everyone is extremely friendly, welcoming and supportive. People genuinely seem to enjoy their work and are very motivated. People are always very happy to help you or tell you about what they do.

I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. I have been very welcomed and have learnt so much about the pharmaceutical industry. I have been given a great deal of responsibility which was allowed me to developed my technical and soft skills. My project supervisor has been extremely supportive while at the same time encouraging me to be confident in making my own decisions.
