Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
The day starts with a morning stand up, where the team one by one relays progress and issues, and members of the team may get assigned a task or alteration. Throughout the day I worked independently on the prototype project I was assigned, which involved me architecting and designing my system, researching into solutions that were often previously alien to me, and of course then the standard coding / implementation
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given plenty responsibility, such as the fact how I was making a prototype software from the ground up. As well as this, I had to do a demonstration with my co-intern at a trade show, where we had to be the ones to talk to members of the Ministry of Defense as well as representatives of other companies.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have gained significant confidence in the C++ programming language due to just how much I worked with it. Throughout my placement I was exposed to a very large range of different technologies that I'd never worked with, such as the Virtual Battle Space software; a combat simulation software; interfacing with Bluetooth devices, Unreal Engine, messaging protocols such as DDS, DIS, and ActiveMQ, and working with fiddly language interfaces, such as when I had to make a Java Native Interface.
Asides from technical aspects, I feel as though I greatly improved my presentation skills, as well as getting used to making quality documentation, in which I can be confident that someone taking over my project would find useful.
