Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Sales Operations is looking at sales data, measuring KPIs on a national level, reporting on it in order to find improvements and inefficiencies.
There's quite a lot of reporting and meetings day to day, doing weekly and monthly reports, and attending meetings, contributing where needed. Outside of this are 'ad-hoc' things that come up, so no day can be completely planned for.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
A lot of responsibility while also being able to tell people you are struggling or need help. They will trust you with reports you are responsible for and may ask you to do 'ad-hoc' things or for certain bits of data, which again they trust what you send them. There's a lot of responsibility and they let you do your own thing, whilst also being there if you need some help.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
The main skill learnt is data driven, you spend a lot of time using excel (including VBA Macros and Power Queries) where you will become a lot stronger in it without being expected to know how to use it before. There are a lot of resources to improve, but a lot of it is just by doing the role and is learnt over time.
Another key skill is communication and presenting as you learn how to deal with situations in a professional setting, where you need to present a lot more of your ideas and contribute to discussions.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
There was a handover in the beginning and the team took over some of the reports so that I wouldn't be overloaded in the beginning. As time went on, the workload slowly built up as I was able to handle more.
I think a lot of the beginning was just reading or listening to instructions, and less about understanding which would've made it a bit better or easier to learn. Now that I understand certain reports, it's more enjoyable and easier as I can respond to queries when people question my data.

How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Very good culture. Very open and everyone is friendly. I thought it would be a lot more closed off where you just sit at your desk, but a lot of people walk around, have coffee breaks, and talk to each other.

One of the best things I've done as it's helped me develop personally and professionally. I have more of an idea of what I want to do in the future, and the skills I've learnt on this placement will help me in any career path I choose.
This has been one of the best experiences of my life where I've travelled and taken part in lots of different things.

Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to Volkswagen Group UK
Apply and apply early. Practice a lot of interview questions using examples of scenarios where you have used that specific skill or faced that scenario in the past. Talk about what you did and what the outcome was, and a reflection of how you would change that in the future if needed.
