Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
I spent two weeks interning in a contentious-focused team. My day-to-day activities varied hugely, from research tasks on complex areas of law and being involved in team meetings to attending a full day hearing at the Inner House of the Court of Session.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
I had several meetings with Partners and Senior Associates at the firm to gain an insight into the structure of their work and lives and how the business operates and what it relies on to thrive. It was fascinating to see how it all works and the intricacies involved in maintaining such an impressive operation.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have a good understanding of the type of work practice in the legal industry involves. I have certainly improved my communication and adaptability skills, which are necessities for this work. I have also learnt a lot about organising my time and my days to be able to complete all of my work to a high level.

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture and atmosphere is unrivalled. My two weeks were spent largely in the Edinburgh office, a calm, naturally lit, easy-going environment. Every person there, however junior or senior, was knowledgeable and approachable and crucially, they were all equally happy to help out where needed.

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
The insight was extremely enjoyable. It was a very new and exciting experience and the insight provided gave me a better understanding of the work I was asked to carry out. Ultimately, understanding the work meant that I could enjoy the work.
