Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
On a day-to-day basis, I shadowed and helped out on work that my Trainee buddy was set. This included research tasks, proofreading, monitoring tasks and file finding. I also engaged in conversations with colleagues to find out more information about the firm, as well as courses on specific areas of legal practice.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
This has been one of the most interesting elements of the placement. The course which illustrated how law firms make money was extremely valuable in demonstrating the business element of a law firm. As somebody that is interested in both law and business, this has been very engaging to learn more about.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have definitely developed greater skills in research, especially in finding specific kinds of information from legislation or cases. This will be helpful for the dissertation element of my degree next year. In addition, it has also demonstrated the practical element of my degree which has allowed me to further understand and develop my existing knowledge of the Scottish Legal System.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The atmosphere was incredibly friendly, with everyone willing to give up their time to have a chat. Although you can tell everyone is working incredibly hard with tough deadlines, the team seem to love what they do which ensures there is a continued positive atmosphere around the office.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I have very much enjoyed the insight. It has provided me with an abundance of new knowledge, and a greater understanding of the commercial law world. Pinsent Masons is a firm which I would love to start my legal career in!

Don't be afraid to chat to people! Everyone is really friendly and it is really helpful to find out more information about PM. In addition, I think it's important to appreciate that everyone makes mistakes so there is no need to stress about it.
