Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
On a day to day basis, you will help resolve queries from different sites around the UK relating to trade issues and supply chain operations. You will also be involved in various tasks such as Long Term Supplier Declaration, C2001's, C285's and C81's whilst working with HMRC to claim back overpaid tax and save money for Cummins. Additionally, a lot of financial records and documents are checked by our team continously.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given a good amount of responsibility as my placement progressed. This included handling audits, answering queries and various other activities. The variety of work is good and I am sure you would pick up more work the longer you are with the company.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have learnt multiple skills during my time as a trade compliance analyst at Cummins. This includes proficiency in microsoft excel, working and cross collaborating in a professional/corporate environment, attention to detail whilst working with documents and new coding languages. I also completed training in project management, communication and data analysis that Cummins' provided.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
The support and guidance from the team in Trade compliance is really good, any questions I had were easily answered by my team and if not higher up. Cummins as a company also seems to provide proficient support as well.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture and general atmosphere is good. My location at Daventry was quite quiet when in the office environment, but positive and hard-working.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I enjoyed my placement thoroughly at Cummins, the support and work experiences gained from an industrial placement is crucial for entering graduate roles after university. The only aspect Cummins could improve is more frequent in-person socials/meetings instead of online. This would make the experience more enjoyable.

My advice for any future applicants is to work hard in the role that you are in and use the opportunity to find out what you dislike and like in order to thrive more in future work.
