Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Day to day I am using Excel and Oracle to run a Macro based sheet which gathers all the discrepancies for me. Once I have done so, I am spending the day investigating these discrepancies and resolving the issues we have on site in relation to Inventory. Whilst doing this I am collaborating with different departments like the Warehouse, Materials, Quality and more to optimise Inventory Control. Other tasks include 3PL bookings and planning.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was definitely given the responsibility that any other member of staff would have been given. I would say I was treated equally in comparison to my team members and my role itself was to be completed alone with no assistance from anybody in my team. This responsibility helped me grow and experience what it would be like working in the real world in an environment I could see my self in the future.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have developed my skills both personally and professionally, I have become more advanced in Excel applications, and having not used Oracle applications before, I would say I am confident in using this system now and have developed new skills I didn't have experience in before. I have been able to boost my confidence through collaborating with different teams and networking around the company, as well as earning new skills through the support of the Company.

I was given full support by both my manager and members of my team. I was confident I could come to them for assistance if necessary and was always provided with the right information/help.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture and atmosphere was very inclusive and open. The team were very welcoming and supportive and the atmosphere had a good work balance.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I thoroughly enjoyed my Placement year and would definitely recommend doing so to any student interested in completing one. This experience has been invaluable and to do so with Cummins has been a fantastic opportunity. I enjoyed all aspects of my year, from my role itself to the extra opportunities I had to do like the Diversity and Inclusion sessions and the Charity work also.
